CA/IL Honors Congressman Keith Ellison at 2013 Annual Dinner

On Friday evening, September 20, over 350 community leaders, elected officials, allies, and advocates joined Citizen Action/Illinois in honoring U.S. Congressman Keith Ellison of Minnesota's 5th District, Co-Chair of the Progressive Caucus of the United States Congress, with the 2013 Lerner-Egan Award for Distinguished Service. 

Speakers included Governor Pat Quinn, US Congresswoman Jan Schakowski, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, as well as CFL Secretary-Treasurer Robert Reiter and Illinois AFL-CIO President Michael Carrigan.

In September of 2008, Citizen Action/Illinois started the Health Care for America Now campaign in Illinois.  HCAN was an ambitious campaign to win quality and affordable health care for the 1.5 million Illinoisans without insurance and the millions being overcharged and underserved by their existing health insurance.
