Health Care Justice for the Long Haul

 "Millions of our citizens do not now have a full measure of opportunity to achieve and to enjoy good health. Millions do not now have protection or security against the economic effects of sickness. And the time has now arrived for action to help them attain that opportunity and to help them get that protection."

 Those were the words of President Harry Truman when he sent a message to Congress on the need for national health care. He delivered his message on November 19, 1945.

Since December, the Republicans leading Congress have proposed nothing but reckless plans when it comes to health care. We all know that there’s a lot of room for improvement in our health care system, particularly when it comes to affordability and lowering costs, but none of these proposals would address these issues.

(Chicago) -- The Citizen Action/Illinois Policy Council and the state PAC, the Progressive Action Project, met and endorsed candidates running in the November 8th General Election. Candidates may be considered for endorsement only if they complete and return our multi-issue questionnaire.

Every year, Citizen Action/Illinois examines the voting records of elected officials in the Illinois General Assembly. The Scorecard is a tool created to enable concerned citizens to hold their elected officials accountable for their votes during the year. For 2016, Citizen Action/Illinois selected 14 key votes in the House and 12 key votes in the Senate of the 99th General Assembly for analysis.
