VIDEO: Dan Sherry, IMSA Leader, Appears in TV Ads for Health Care Reform

The Main Street Alliance, a national network of small business coalitions, launched a new flight of television ads today highlighting small business backing for health reform and urging key Members of Congress to show their support for small businesses by voting for real health reform after Congress returns from its August recess.

The ad, “Support Small Business,” started airing August 13 and will run through August 21st in the districts of Reps. Betsy Markey (CO‐04), Mike McIntyre (NC‐07), Glenn Nye (VA‐02), John Salazar (CO‐03), Dina Titus (NV‐03), and also in Indiana and North Dakota.

"Our employees are like family,” small business owner Dan Sherry says in the 30‐second TV spot, “But right now we can’t afford to provide them with health insurance.” Sherry owns Kennedy’s Creative Awards, a family engraving business founded 70 years ago in Waukegan, Ill. He’s been uninsured himself since his family’s coverage lapsed three years ago.

When they sought to reinstate it, Sherry was denied coverage for a pre‐existing condition…high cholesterol. Sherry is a member of the Illinois Main Street Alliance, the state affiliate of the Main Street Alliance, a national network of small business coalitions working with small business owners across the country to build a new voice to advance health reform and stop the spiraling costs of health care for small businesses.

“This bill will lower health care costs for small businesses,” Sherry concludes. “That’s what we need – now.”
