Sen. Durbin stands with Citizen Action/Illinois to call for financial reform

On Friday April 23rd, Senator Durbin joined with Americans for Financial Reform, the Woodstock Institute, Illinois PIRG,  Illinois Main Street Alliance and Citizen Action/Illinois at a news conference across the street from the Federal Reserve Bank. The press conference called for passage of Wall Street reform legislation set to be debated next week in the Senate. Senator Durbin called on the Senate to pass legislation that will stop Wall Street from gambling with America's financial security.

The bill protects and empowers consumers and includes strict new regulations to stop Wall Street from gambling with America’s financial security and creates of an independent agency with the sole function of protecting consumers, called the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau which will be housed within the Federal Reserve. 

Next week at the same location, 1,500 people will hold a rally demanding Washington reign in Wall Street and create jobs for Main Street. Jobs with Justice, Illinois Main Street Alliance, Americans for Financial Reform, Woodstock Institute, Chicago Federation of Labor, SEIU and many other organizations and individuals will join in the rally and march.
