Cook County Pushes to Close Oak Forest, Leaving Residents to Fend for Themselves

On April 18th, patients and staff of Oak Forest Hospital joined with community residents to demand the County keep Oak Forest open until it provides alternative care.  Residents are wondering why they are closing Oak Forest hospital without taking steps to improve the remaining health care system in southern Cook County (otherwise called the health care desert).

As lawyers, marketing experts and lobbyists for CCHHS filled the first two rows, angry nurses and residents filled the remainder of the room to demand that the County stop the closure of Oak Forest until an alternative plan is ready for implementation.   “We are very worried that the County is rushing to close Oak Forest down” stated Carol O’Neill, former Oak Forest staffer.  “There are a lot of unanswered questions.”
