Citizen Action/Illinois calls for jobs and resources to fix our crumbling infrastructure

Date:
10/27/2011

On October 19th, Citizen Action Illinois stood with Representative Schakowsky along with the Chicago Federation of Labor, Illinois PIRG, the Illinois Chamber, Transportation for America and the Environmental Law and Policy Center to bring attention to the need for jobs and resources to fix our crumbling infrastructure.  They held a press conference under the Wilson and Lake Shore Drive bridge, one of 481 structurally deficient bridges in the Chicago area.

At the news conference, engineering experts, labor workers and Representative Schakowsky urgently reported the dangers of the hundreds of level-4 or lower bridges in Illinois (bridges are ranked on a scale of 1 to 9, with below 4 being structurally deficient).  Together, they called on Congress to invest the money needed to keep Illinois competitive by fixing its crumbling infrastructure and creating good jobs that will impact local economies throughout Illinois.  There are 481 structurally deficient bridges in the Chicago region alone.
