Thousands March for Jobs Not Cuts

On November 17th, several cities in Illinois, including Libertyville, Joliet and Chicago, participated in a National Day of Action to protest proposed cuts to the 4 pillars of our shared safety net--Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and the Affordable Care Act--and push for tax increases on the wealthiest Americans and their financial transactions.  Thousands gathered at the State of Illinois Building in downtown Chicago before marching to the LaSalle street bridge for some afternoon civil disobedience.  Despite a frigid wind whipping down the river, crowds chanted, laughed and sang as dozens were arrested.

At 5:00, many joined a march 4 blocks south to the Board of Trade to protest with their brothers and sisters of Occupy Chicago.

Thanks to Stand Up Chicago, SEIU and Action Now for taking a lead role in planning and turnout.

Next stop, anyone who supports cuts to our 4 pillars.
