Lombard, IL — What? Monday morning, crowds gathered near the Westin Hotel, 70 Yorktown, to protest a budget proposed by U.S. Representative Paul Ryan, R-Wis., who was in town for a fundraising luncheon at the hotel that morning. They represented groups like Citizen Action/Illinois, CREDO Action and MoveOn.

So what? Ryan is chairman of the House of Representative’s Budget Committee, and proposed the Path to Prosperity budget for fiscal year 2013, which was approved and advanced by the House’s Budget Committee in March. The protesters in Lombard disagreed with this budget proposal because of the changes it would make to government funded health care and Social Security programs, if approved.

Now what? The proposed budget addresses changes to health care and retirement programs, promotes job creation and aims to revitalize the economy. Americans United for Change, a nationwide political organization, heading the opposition for Ryan’s budget proposal encourages opponents of the budget to write to their representatives, said Lauren Weiner, deputy communications director for the group.
