Citizen Action/ Illinois Calls for Medicare Price Negotiations

Rockford, IL– On April 3, Citizen Action/IL and IARA stood with local seniors at a press conference to demand Congress lift the prohibition on Medicare price negotiations.  The press event was held at the historic Booker Washington Community Center in Rockford Illinois.  The groups announced their support for Senator Rockefeller's legislation to allow negotiations, which could save Illinois close to $3 Billion over ten years.  Also, they committed to keep the pressure on Congressional members in the area.

"Many in Washington want to cut Medicare benefits and make retirees pay more out of their pockets for health care, but the solution is exactly the opposite,” said John Gaudette, Organizing Director of Citizen Action/ Illinois. “Instead of punishing the folks who count on Medicare, we should start with commonsense reforms, like letting Medicare use its buying power to bargain for discounts for prescription drugs. The Department of Veterans Affairs and the state Medicaid programs already do this and pay far less for the same drugs.”
