Endorses Duckworth for Senate
(CHICAGO) – On Saturday, November 7, 2015 the Citizen Action/Illinois Policy Council convened in Chicago to make an endorsement in the primary elections for U.S. Senate.
After hearing from the candidates, the Council voted unanimously to endorse Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth (D-8)
“We have a long history of working with Congresswoman Duckworth on a wide range of issues including a woman’s right to choose and, more recently, on enacting tougher rules for payday lenders to stop the exploitation of our members of the military and their families” said William McNary, Co-Director, Citizen Action/Illinois.
“Congresswoman Duckworth has demonstrated through her distinguished service to our country and her record in Congress that as a U.S. Senator she will fight for America’s working and middle class with intelligence and tenacity.”

This is a high-profile decision that is being carefully watched across the country and by other states.
Consumer advocates say landmark payday loan reforms accomplish goal of ending 700 percent loans, breaking cycle of debt
SPRINGFIELD—High-cost consumer credit, extended with no consideration of a borrower's ability to pay it back, has stripped billions in wealth from Illinois communities since the beginning of the economic crisis. While lending reform is still being debated in Washington, the Illinois General Assembly passed strong consumer protections designed to cap rates for the often controversial payday lending industry.
