CA/IL Honors Congressman Keith Ellison at 2013 Annual Dinner
On Friday evening, September 20, over 350 community leaders, elected officials, allies, and advocates joined Citizen Action/Illinois in honoring U.S. Congressman Keith Ellison of Minnesota's 5th District, Co-Chair of the Progressive Caucus of the United States Congress, with the 2013 Lerner-Egan Award for Distinguished Service.
Speakers included Governor Pat Quinn, US Congresswoman Jan Schakowski, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, as well as CFL Secretary-Treasurer Robert Reiter and Illinois AFL-CIO President Michael Carrigan.

Crowd Protests Rep. Ryan's Plan to Privatize Social Security
On September 1st, 150 senior citizens, disabled Americans, and concerned citizens from Illinois Alliance for Retired Americans, Illinois Main Street Alliance, Access Living, SEIU and Citizen Action/Illinois came together outside Representative Ryan's "Roadmap to Ruin" event in Chicago. Chanting "HANDS OFF SOCIAL SECURITY", Social Security supporters quickly got the attention of Conservative Republicans looking to privatize our social security system.
Keep Oak Forest Hospital Open: the Community Speaks Out
July 21, 2010: Patients, caregivers and community members gathered to voice their opposition to the Cook County plan to cut Inpatient, Emergency and Rehabilitation Services at the south suburban Oak Forest Hospital.
The service cuts would rid many uninsured Chicagoland residents of accessible and affordable health care. The changes would send patients to other already overcapacitied County facilities, to which the transport is also very difficult and time-consuming.
