Help Us Fight for National Payday Loan Protections
This year, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is preparing to issue new rules for payday lenders. This historic and unprecedented opportunity will enable a federal agency to finally curb the payday loan debt trap nationwide, much like we have already done here in Illinois. We expect Payday lenders to mount a significant campaign to stop these efforts.
CA/IL Honors Congressman Keith Ellison at 2013 Annual Dinner
On Friday evening, September 20, over 350 community leaders, elected officials, allies, and advocates joined Citizen Action/Illinois in honoring U.S. Congressman Keith Ellison of Minnesota's 5th District, Co-Chair of the Progressive Caucus of the United States Congress, with the 2013 Lerner-Egan Award for Distinguished Service.
Speakers included Governor Pat Quinn, US Congresswoman Jan Schakowski, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, as well as CFL Secretary-Treasurer Robert Reiter and Illinois AFL-CIO President Michael Carrigan.

On March 18, Citizen Action/Illinois held the 8th Annual Senator Paul Simon/Senator Paul Wellstone Awards. CA/IL was proud to honor Michael Carrigan, President of the Illinois AFL-CIO with the Paul Simon Award and Karen Lewis, President of the Chicago Teachers Union with the Paul Wellstone Award for their leadership and dedication to fighting for working families.

On Thursday June 28, Over 150 people gathered in 100-degree heat in Chicago's Daley Plaza praising the Supreme Court ruling as a profound victory for American consumers. With this seminal Supreme Court decision, the constitutional debate over the law ended and the quest toward affordable and accessible healthcare moved triumphantly forward. Healthcare advocates said that 30 million more Americans can now be covered and that the worst insurance company abuses will become a relic of the past.
